Field account
The Wayfinding Regent descended a dead escalator with an EXIT sign for a face. Tile, retail plastic, clay, and stolen directory arrows formed its body. One gesture folded three storefronts into a corridor that had never existed; another arranged mannequins to leave only a false escape. Its authority lives in the belief that every arrow must lead somewhere.
Observed behavior
The Regent offers a plausible safe route, then closes alternatives until intruders reach a prepared kill court. It expects one sign to be contradicted. What unsettles it is a route with no possible destination: arrows turned inward, toward removed places, or into a circle the building cannot satisfy.
Read the environment
The warning arrives before the creature.
Every surviving arrow points toward a store removed from the building.
Directory icons change posture when no one looks directly at them.
Mannequins wait at intersections with their heads turned opposite the signs.

Direct signs toward a removed, circular, or mutually impossible destination. The contradiction consumes its authority and destabilizes nearby routes.
