I published my first book when I was forty-five.
For most of my life, the idea of finding the time—much less the words—to fill an entire book felt foreign to me. I thought about doing it for years.
Who am I kidding? Decades.
Yep, Theron began in English class.
It started with a short story I wrote as a sophomore in high school in 1995.
I kept thinking about him long after the assignment ended. When I was sixteen, I started writing a book called The Land of Nowhere. I stayed after school and wrote in the library for an hour every day. I’d written roughly eighty-five thousand words when the disk containing my manuscript crashed.
Everything was gone.
I tried starting over with pen and paper, but frustration eventually won. Years passed, and I wrote and rewrote that book in my head dozens of times. I dreamed about Theron, Jerrick, and Elena. Their story changed as I changed, but it never completely left me.
Finally, a few years ago, I decided I was done. I was never going to write it.
Then something unexpected happened: I mourned it.
I couldn’t stop thinking about the story I’d never finish and everything I’d miss if I let it disappear. So I began writing again.
Three books later, I had a complete trilogy. The story I’d always imagined as a single novel had grown into something much larger.
Since then, I’ve kept writing and I don’t expect to stop. I’ve got enough ideas to keep me busy for at least the next four years. By then, I’m certain several more will have appeared.
That’s how it works for me now. One world leads to another. A character refuses to leave. Two unrelated words collide and become the beginning of something enormous.

My stories can be dark, but they aren’t hopeless.
I write epic fantasy about broken people facing impossible choices, ancient powers that should have remained buried, and worlds in which victory always carries a cost.
I’m interested in what people become when everything familiar is stripped away—and whether they can still choose loyalty, courage, and love when those choices hurt.
Oh, hi. I’m Nick Blade.
I’m an epic fantasy author, but I’m more than that. I’m also a husband, a father, and a digital marketer who has spent twenty-six years helping ideas find their audience. Writing may have arrived later in my life than I expected, but storytelling was there all along.
I live in rural New Jersey—yes, such a place exists—where I enjoy the country, bike rides with my wife, and building fictional worlds that are significantly more dangerous than the one outside my window.
