Foundry threshold
The travelers rushed the foundry door together. Three lengths of bell metal answered inside the Sentinel's chest. Their own footfalls came back through the floor hard enough to buckle their knees.
One uneven limp made the chimes disagree.
Timing notes
It guards the threshold by listening to the crossing. Identity matters less than rhythm. Give it a repeated beat and it gets faster. Stagger the steps or pad them, and its timing can overload. Competing rhythms do the same. Rails and floors carry its warnings through the foundry.

Make two uneven rhythms from separate directions. The core hesitates between responses it cannot reconcile.

Muffle the chimes
Pack dense wet cloth between the bell lengths. Stored vibration can no longer organize the frame.
