Field account
We heard the rails singing before the Charger came around the cut. It was built like a bull only at first glance; the long back carried fused rail segments as a single raised spine, with ties and spikes embedded along both flanks. Iron-plated shoulders fitted the gauge almost perfectly. Once its hooves found track, the creature stopped steering and began accelerating. Broken wagons became shrapnel beneath the chest. At the switch, we threw the lever after its lead hoof passed. The Railspine tried to follow both routes. Its rigid back twisted against the diverging iron and tore free in a shower of sparks. Off track it was still enormous, but suddenly uncertain, feeling for the familiar line with each step. A Railspine Charger is not a train made flesh. It is an animal whose skeleton believes rail is the truest possible ground.
Observed behavior
The Charger searches for a rail line before committing to attack. Once aligned, it lowers the shoulders and accelerates with little ability to turn outside switches. It uses the raised spine to throw sparks and broken hardware along both sides. Off rail, it paws and probes, becoming slower but still dangerous at close range. Switches, lifted sections, and false short tracks can redirect it. The animal reacts violently to rail hammering, which resembles a territorial challenge, and may ignore easier prey to charge the source.
