Titles at the sinkhole court
Mara refused the titles. The room tried to erase the space her name occupied.
The throne room had grown inside the sinkhole overnight. Rib-curved walls carried pale tallies for things removed from the world. Above an open gullet stood the Sovereign, its crown made of fragments that never touched. Looking through its empty torso showed less of myself instead of the far wall. One hand made the smaller horrors bow. The other compressed the floor into lanes toward its center.
We crowned the Starfall tooth and declared appetite sovereign over hierarchy. The kneeling spawn turned against the throne. We climbed while they fought.
Recognition and rank
A title gives useful protection while binding the recipient to a rank and hollowing private identity. Refusal invites erasure. The Sovereign moves slowly because its domain brings petitioners to it. Lesser abyssal things obey until faced with a stronger appetite they cannot rank.
Personal names resist the order. So do reciprocal relationships and cooperation with no leader. Breaking the crown scatters authority but enlarges the hungry torso. Forced matter cannot fill it. It must meet something rank cannot reduce.
