Field account
Above the storm, the Aetherwing Drake rested across a ridge of cloud as if cloud were stone. Through its wing membranes shone stars from another season. One movement struck the balloon with the weight of a falling lake, then the creature descended beside it without hurry, choosing who would be taken when the ropes parted. It would not follow into common lightning.
Observed behavior
The Drake flattens clouds into shelves and forces birds below a chosen ceiling. It inspects intruders before removing their lift, creating descending lanes, and striking only after escape has become a fall. Chaotic weather offends its need for control; conspicuous falling objects challenge its pride.
Read the environment
The warning arrives before the creature.
Clouds form level terraces despite winds at different heights.
Birds refuse to fly above the same invisible ceiling.
Falling objects drift sideways, pause, and only then descend.
