Thunder Revenant

Field account

The Revenant stood between two weather fronts, one hand resting on a boundary post that had not existed that morning. Its body was a soldier-shaped storm wrapped in floating plates of dark cloud. Lightning crawled through old wounds and exited as red square motes. Each time someone approached, thunder answered before the foot came down. The first scout was thrown backward by his own pending step. We tried the ravine; the storm stretched a plated arm across it. We tried waiting; pressure built until our teeth hurt. At last Vale drove a copper survey rod into the precise center of the claimed line and named both sides as one watershed. The next bolt chose the rod. For the first time the Revenant had no separate territories to defend, and its armor fell as rain.

Observed behavior

The Revenant claims the most meaningful division available and reinforces it through anticipatory thunder. It reacts to intended crossing before physical contact, striking the motion's projected endpoint. Direct attacks charge its plates and widen the boundary. Grounding works only if placed where both sides agree, because a rod wholly within one territory becomes another defended object. The entity cannot explain its mandate. If the distinction between sides is truthfully dissolved, the circuit loses potential and the body rains out. False declarations are answered with immediate lightning.
