What witnesses saw.

The field account preserves what witnesses understood before the encounter became doctrine. It is observation, not certainty.

Field account

The storm came ashore in rows, each breaker perfectly behind the last. Between them walked a woman made of spray. Her hair flashed with sheet lightning; her ribs were pale arcs under a gown that never became cloth. Wreck gulls circled her as calmly as church doves. When she sang, the wounded things along the seawall stood straighter. A Dockchain Wight lifted its ruined face. Three Scuttlers surfaced beneath the foam, tar coats shining like new pitch. I felt the song find the salt in my blood and pull my feet toward the open water. Captain Vale did not cover his ears. He smashed the harbor bell out of rhythm. Its cracked note broke one row of surf from the next, and the Siren faltered long enough for us to reach the lee wall. She watched us go with no anger at all, only the solemn patience of weather certain we would return.

Observed behavior

A Siren seldom attacks alone. She arrives where coastal creatures, ghosts, or desperate people already hold a contested shore, then synchronizes them through song and weather. Allies within the cadence recover discipline, move with the surf, and ignore pain that would normally break them. Enemies are offered beautiful routes toward drowning, exposure, or surrender. She prefers repeated patterns and becomes visibly distressed by syncopation, contradictory bells, or waves broken by irregular barriers. A Siren may spare anyone who completes a drowned person's unfinished verse, but she remembers false lyrics and carries them to every storm along that coast.

Read the environment

The warning arrives before the creature.

  1. Breakers arriving in perfectly spaced rows regardless of wind.

  2. Seabirds circling inland while facing toward the sea.

  3. A second melody audible inside bells that are not moving.

Survival doctrine

Recognize the rule. Break the advantage.

These are field principles, not promises. The Rift punishes anyone who mistakes one successful answer for a permanent law.

01

Broken Measure

Irregular percussion disrupts her control of wave rows and forces her many voices out of agreement.

02

Leeward Silence

Thick stone, packed earth, or a sealed interior severs her from open surf and sharply limits her reach.

Recovered Field Plate

The sketch records its form. The surviving account records what it did.

01

Primary form

Aerial profile with wings, fins, membranes, or a lifted predatory posture; protective or ritual shape with satellites, attendants, growths, or carried focus objects.

02

Material detail

Ghost shape threaded with fire, storm, brine, chrome light, or aurora currents.
