Field account

No one aboard the night train slept at the same time, yet all of us dreamed the same river. A pale figure stood on its far bank with hooks hanging from ribbons where a face should have been. Each time the wheels crossed a joint, one ribbon twitched. The conductor woke screaming with a hook of cold light through his shadow. Behind him, something from his dream stepped into the carriage wearing his dead brother's coat. The Wight never entered bodily. It leaned from the windows' reflection, drawing more line through every closing eye. We broke its hold by telling our dreams aloud and deliberately changing them together. The river filled with impossible red birds. The hooks missed. At dawn the train stopped beside no station, and every sleeper carried a fine silver scar beneath the tongue.

Observed behavior

The Wight begins with synchronization: repeated sounds, shared temperature, or scheduled lights encourage several minds to enter similar rhythms. It hooks the most private recurring image and drags copies through nearby reflections. Waking victims remain tethered if they conceal what they saw. Spoken description weakens the line, while collaborative invention introduces material the System cannot index. The creature avoids children dreaming together because their rapid contradictions tangle its hooks. Cutting a visible ribbon without waking its source transfers the hook to the cutter's next sleep.
