Field account
At midnight, a dead beacon turned inland and searched through walls until it found a debt. The Ledgerkeeper stepped from the tower with a lens for a face, bronze ribs, and a ledger bound upright through its spine. Wherever the beam landed, the ground divided into lanes no one could cross without surrendering something named aloud.
Observed behavior
The Ledgerkeeper observes, numbers, and separates before it punishes. Its records may be exact but mutilated by omitted names and inherited fraud. Vague appeals enrage it; precise testimony and primary evidence can force a revision even after judgment has begun.
