Field record
Pier attack
Six legs opened under what looked like a collapsed bollard. The Scuttler dragged its belly across the pier, black strands of hide wound tight around it. A shot tightened them further. So did the hooks and boots brought against it. Every blow went into the coils. The next charge returned the force.
Stored impact
It tests the dock before it chooses prey. Hulls and seawalls return momentum differently, and it learns which surface to use. It drives people onto rotten boards or breaker rock. Loose shell spoils its footing. Dry sand and floating debris also unsettle the adhesive pads.

Tar strings stretch between pilings at ankle height. Paired dents repeat along the seawall.

Ruin the footing
Spread crushed oyster shell and coarse dry sand where it will charge. Both foul the adhesive pads.

Find the pale seam
Beneath the body is a narrow line the coils don't cover. It stays soft enough to breathe through and cannot absorb a direct cut.
