Field account

He came over the seawall on a gold banister. One moment it was hooked around a coral block; the next, a man in reef-plated climbing gear swung through the spray and kicked Nessa off her feet. The Grappler's face was human except for white calcification along the jaw and contract tags braided into his hair. He planted a second hook behind us, turning the narrow breakwall into a triangle of taut lines. Every attempt to close on him became another swing, another shoulder throw, another chance to cut a pack free. Then the evacuation horn sounded from the flooded plaza. He froze, counted us, and severed his own escape line. Rescue law, he said. Fight's over until the horn stops. Together we hauled three strangers from the undertow. When the final note died, he handed back Nessa's pack, kept the medicine as his fee, and vaulted into neon mist before anyone argued.

Observed behavior

A Breakwall Grappler builds geometry before attacking. Two or three hooks create moving anchor triangles that let the fighter swing, reverse force, and isolate one target on narrow seawalls or plazas. They strike equipment and balance more often than flesh, preferring a profitable surrender to a corpse lost in surf. Every school recognizes a continuous evacuation horn and will redirect immediately toward rescue, even beside an enemy. Without reliable anchor points, Grapplers become cautious and seek negotiation. They admire anyone who checks a line before trusting it. Cutting a rescue rope for tactical advantage marks a person as undertow-dead, outside nearly every Crownfront truce.
